This was so incredibly helpful!!! I’m a young woman living on my own and teaching myself how to do “dad” jobs like fixing house things, putting up curtain rods styling the home, using a screw driver, chopping firwood and landscaping the garden. I’m so greatful for youtube and videos like this helping me learn how to do everything on my own so I can be entirely self sufficient and more connected with the earth and my home and my self. I went to one of the larger, most established garden centers in my area and spoke with a landscape architect. For 50 dollars she created a plan for me. She came out to my house, measured the property, and a week later, mailed me a scaled design with plant placement, plant and materials list. She included a price tag if I wanted to hire the garden center to do the work. I did hire them to cut out the sod, install the brick edging, and plant the ornamental trees. My husband and I did the rest ourselves. The end result was gorgeous and aged well through the years. Best 50 I’ve ever spent. Its to easy to make a bad decision if you lack sufficient knowledge of plants.
Looks nice. One tip though: put the weed fabric under the edging stones too.
Couple years ago, I never thought I would be interested in something my dad could watch for hours on end. Now I am here soaking it all in and I love it. oh god..
Nice work- a few other tips. 1.) Place 2″ of decomposed granite compacted under pavers to eliminate future settling 2.) Mulch breaks down to organic material which is beneficial to the soil, ditch the landscape fabric and top off each year. 3) save all mulch bags and use as trash bags for other lawn clean up activities – twigs, leaves, weeding …etc
I don’t even own a house, I just find these videos satisfying to watch.
TIP: Unless you intend to do hard pruning/hedging all the time do NOT plant shrubs such as hydrangeas so close to your house as in this video, particularly since the first 45 -60 cm/ 18-24 inches (depending on your eaves) out from your house is a drought zone. Take the time to find out what the diameter of your shrub will be in its natural or intended hedged state and plant your shrub a minimum of half that distance plus 10cm/4 inches away from the base of your house so that the shrub gets good airflow and water. Putting a shrub in the wrong spot just means a lot of unnecessary work later.
Omg I just moved to Ohio from Florida (from a town home to a single family home). I needed to do something cute to this front yard with dead plants. Your video was so easy to watch, and your narrating is so friendly and warm! This is such a refreshing yard video among the many 90s looking ones I’ve found on YouTube! I’m so excited to try the things you did! Makes it so easy. I have no green thumb or yard caring experience! Wish me luck 😅

You did an amazing job! Thorn bushes are typically placed under windows to deter burglars. I had them outside my apartment window when I lived on the bottom floor and sleep better knowing they were there.
Really good and practical. I’m a minimalist type person and appreciated how straightforward and economical these suggestions are. Hope your yard is still looking fab

Thank you for this great idea about removing, cleaning, re-positioning and using the existing pavers. I’m excited to do this to my big tree in the front of my house and give it a clean spruced up look. Thanks for sharing 😊
One quick tip back to you is to lay a sheet down before you prune. When you finish cutting, just drag the sheet to the burn pile or the curb in one trip. Your yard looks awesome! The pressure washer really made a huge difference!
