The door closing hardware is a “Latch Set” the part that holds the door is the “Latch” (like a moving Tenon going into a Mortise) Great job.

Another project completed with great craftsmanship. In US we install doors to open into the room and the hinge pins are in the inside for security but as you mentioned in Japan things are different but you followed the instructions for the lock set. Again completed project looks fantastic. 👍🔨😎

I wonder if the door is hung to open outward to make it more difficult for bad spirits to enter. Harder for demons to pull open a door rather than just push it open. I know of similar superstitions in other countries.
